Stanford Alumni Mentoring: creating a culture of mentorship.

We offer three undergraduate mentoring sessions per year. Student online applications are available at the beginning of the Fall, Winter, an Spring quarters.

Students: Upon completing the required short orientation, you will be given access to create your account, and based on your personal criteria you can search for and request a mentor. Once a mentor accepts you as a mentee, you will be notified by e-mail of the mentoring match and only then will the pair's contact information be exchanged.

Why SAM?

Mentoring, in the context of SAM, is the experience and development of a voluntary, long-term, one-on-one relationship between a student and an alumnus/a. The relationship is built on respect and involves a conscious effort toward personal growth, mutual exchange, and interpersonal support. While the alumni mentor imparts his or her knowledge, experience, and guidance to the mentee, the student is honest, responsive, sincere, and proactive in interacting with his or her mentor.

For students, participation is not only a source of career advice, but also provides access to the invaluable personal and professional knowledge that alumni have developed through their experiences, ranging from graduate school, the working world, or life after Stanford in general. SAM invites students from all majors and disciplines to experience the rewards of one-on-one mentoring.

For alumni, SAM provides a concrete and effective way to give back and reconnect with the Stanford community while developing engaging and insightful relationships with student mentees. SAM invites alumni from all professions to share their experiences and career advice with current undergraduates and help guide them through the process of achieving their personal and professional goals.
